Mom’s Favorite Flowers

April 24th, 2012

We wanted to take a moment to chat about one of the most common questions our fans ask on Mother’s Day (or on any holiday, really): What are the right flowers to get?

There are some common flower types that are given on Mother’s Day, like carnations, roses, sunflowers, and gerbera daisies, but none of these are mandatory. The truth is, Mom’s favorite flower is the one that comes from you.

It sounds corny, but it’s true!

Mom cultivated you with love from seed, to sprout, to the flowering bloom you are today. Almost any gift that comes from you is sure to put a smile on her face. And, if you can’t make it home for a visit, flowers are a wonderful reminder of the special relationship you share.

If your mother has a favorite flower type, it’s great to send that, but don’t get too hung up on getting the “correct” one. Find an arrangement, or even a single flower (like a graceful and complex orchid), that speaks to you and says something about your feelings for your mom. If that sounds a little too poetic for your taste, just get a bouquet that looks nice.

There’s no wrong answer with flowers.

If Mother’s Day in your country falls on a Sunday, as it does in the US (5/13), be sure to place your order well in advance of the date. Florists get pretty busy around the holiday, and it’s best to give plenty of notice so that your delivery can be locked in for that date. If you can’t schedule it for that day, however, don’t worry about it. Flowers don’t have to arrive on the exact date of a holiday. A day before is totally fine.

If you have any questions at all, feel free to send a quick note to info@floraqueen.com. We’re always happy to answer questions or share recommendations. You can also find us on our Facebook page.

So, to all the children and their glorious Mammas: Happy Mother’s Day!

Have a lovely time – you’ve earned it!

March 30th, 2012

FloraQueen has been like a beehive these past weeks: calm on the outside, a frenzy of activity on the inside. We’ve been busily buzzing about, giving our site the fresh makeover that you now see everywhere you look.

Our goal was to make the site cleaner, prettier, and easier to use. We want browsing FloraQueen to be as pleasant as walking through a blooming meadow in the Spring.

Also, we wanted to add some fresh bouquets to our catalogue. If you browse the site, you’ll find it bursting with gorgeous new arrangements for you to “Wow!” people with.

We’re very excited about the new changes and can’t wait to hear what you think. Whether your feedback is good or bad, please take a moment to share it with us on our Facebook page or in a comment below. After all, at the end of the day, FloraQueen is here for you, and we’re always looking for ways to make your experience here better.

Plant at home

In one of our latest posts, “A Flower garden at home“, we wrote about flowers on furniture and other home accessories.  Wouldn’t it be interesting to know which flower or plant is actually good for which room?

When you go plant shopping, keep in mind that not all plants are “inside” plants and more importantly, visualize each room and remember the amount of light it gets; specifically low, medium or high amounts of light.

In general, the best way for a plant to be noticed when entering a room is by placing it against a simple background. Some people like to dedicate a corner and create a small indoor garden by placing couple of plants, both big and small right next to each other.

The 2011 Spring/ Summer floral collections underline color, humor and passion which is also reflected in tropical make up colors and accessories.

So let’s have fun this season and forget about the “fashion rules”! Let’s mix floral patterns, bold colors, lets hit the streets and have fun, lets flip the hair and be fierce! Read more…

Pansies flowers in a colorful nutritious salad

Cooking and garnishing with flowers is back on track! Many restaurant chefs and home cooks garnish their entrees with flower blossoms to give it a special touch.

Flower cookery has been traced back to Roman times, and to the Middle Eastern, Indian and Chinese cultures. In China, flower flavored teas are the hit – lotus flower, nasturtium, honeysuckle, lilies, chrysanthemums, roses and amaranth –are just a small list of the typical tea varieties that the Chinese enjoy. Flowers and Plants are NOT our pet’s best friends!

Spring is here and we start spending more time outside. And it’s not just us- also our cats and dogs enjoy the great outdoors.

Spring is a lovely time and if you want to make the best of it, you may want to learn which plants and flowers are safe and which to avoid when taking your dog for a walk, or letting your cat out into the wild world of your garden.

I figure that this alone is a great reason to dedicate this post to our lovely furry friends ;D Read more…
