Why Thailand is the Most Romantic Place on the Planet
There is so much about Thailand that appeals to the romantic soul. The exotic landscape, idyllic beaches, and laid-back ‘mai pen rai’ attitude of the locals makes it the perfect location for lovers. This explains why so many couples now choose this destination to get married or to enjoy a romantic getaway. There are also countless stories of tourist who found love during their trip to the Land of Smiles.
Thailand is also known for having some of the most romantic festivals in the world. Each November, on the night of the full moon, the locals gather at rivers across the country to launch tiny boats usually made from slices of a banana tree and containing a candle. It is breathtaking to see these boats move along the river, and the Loy Kratong festival is a time for celebrating love. Valentine’s Day is an import into Thailand, but the local people have made it their own. Each year, hundreds of couples flock to the Bang Rak district in Bangkok to get married (rak in Thai means love).
There are many destinations in Thailand that are particularly noted for their romantic atmosphere. Koh Phi Phi Don is the main island in a small archipelago in Southern Thailand. It has become the number one destination for couples because of its fabulous resorts, tropical white sandy beaches, and scenery that is picture-postcard perfect. Other fabulous destinations for lovers would include: Koh Samui, Phuket, Koh Samed, Koh Chang, Hua Hin and Chiang Mai. The fact that the majority of visitors to Thailand are couples means that there is now a plentiful supply of hotels and resorts that cater specifically to this market.
