The name Castlefield refers to the position of the Roman Settlement below a former Roman Fort. It is a contracted version of the name Castle-In-The-Field. During the industrial revolution this area was rich with with inventions and firsts for the nation as well as the world. In the 20th century however the area became somewhat derelict.
