The Chelsea Flower Show

Today is the beginning of the most important flower event in the UK, the RHS Chelsea Flower Show! Flower lovers, celelbrities and even royals descend on The Royal Hospital, Chelsea in London to see the best flowers, plants and gardens in the world.
Originally ‘The Royal Horticultural Society Great Spring Show’, it was first held in 1862 in Kensington, and moved to Temple Gardens in the heart of London in 1888, before finally settling in the grounds of the Royal Hospital, Chelsea in 1912. Today the show lasts five days and is attended by 157,000 visitors every year, and receives extensive television coverage.

Awards are given to participants for the best gardens, floral exhibits, trees, herbs and vegetables, exhibits of educational and scientific interest, and pictures and photographs of floral arrangements and floristry. There are also special awards such as Best Show Garden, Best City Garden and Best Chic Garden.
