Our Top 5 Celebrity Flower Fans

Lifestyles of the rich and the famous are always in the news and while most things about their love lives and projects hit the front pages one of the things we hear less about is their personal hobbies and interests. Unsurprisingly there are a quite large number of celebrity flower fans out there and here are just five that you may or may not have realised were appreciators of fresh, colourful flowers.

Elton John

Sir Elton John is one of music’s most flamboyant characters and of course absolutely loves flowers in his home, however, a lot more than people may have realised. It was reported in 2000 when an investigation put his expenses in the spotlight during a legal dispute that the Goodbye Yellow Brick Road singer had spent £293,000 on flowers in just under two years! In the court deposition, when questioned on the extraordinary excess of his expenditure, he simply replied: “Yes, I like flowers”. Although this paled in comparison to the nearly £1.5 million on average that he had spent in a month around the time, which he admitted was when he’d gone “spending mad” during the period.

If you’re a fan of the Smiths then it will come as no surprise that the Mancunian singer is on this list. When the band were at the top of their fame the eccentric performer was often seen carrying a large bouquet of gladiolas and daffodils on stage or on his clothes, which was said to be inspired by his love of Oscar Wilde.

This habit later spread to the fans who would throw flowers at the stage, which was a pleasant contrast to the more unpleasant things that other rock fans would throw at bands performing on stage (which we will leave to your imagination, although suffice to say if you’ve ever been to a British Music festival you’ll agree that flowers are a better alternative). Morrissey also elaborated on his love for fresh flowers musing: “I think flowers are very beautiful things, very nice and innocent things. They don’t harm anyone”.

Leonardo Di Caprio

The Oscar winning actor is a keen lover of green living having already starting his own foundations focusing on environmental issues, investing heavily in solar energy and trying to economise his carbon footprint on travel. It is also said that he is a big fan of flowers, requesting florists to dress his homes in LA and Europe before he arrives to stay for a spell. Coincidentally his next film will be Killers of the Flower Moon, where he will team up again with director Martin Scorsese.

Jennifer Garner

Often photographed carrying around large vases and bouquets of flowers the Hollywood A-lister is known to frequent many farmers markets around Los Angeles and Boston, with gladiolas, sunflowers and delphinium said to be her favourites. She is also a big fan of giving floral inspired names to her children with daughters called Violet and Seraphina Rose respectively. She’s definitely on team flower.

Katy Perry

The colourful singer and “California Gurl” is another big fan of beautiful fresh flowers. As if it wasn’t enough she allegedly buys flowers daily with her favourites being hydrangeas and peonies. More recently she was surprised on her birthday by boyfriend Orlando Bloom by being “buried in flowers” although we assume that this wasn’t meant literally. Perhaps dating a man with such a horticulturally appropriate name isn’t a coincidence too.

So there are just a few of the great and the good who love flowers. Of course, there are many more celebrities we couldn’t mention from the worlds of music, art, cinema and royalty. Do you think we missed anyone important?
