Flowers of the World: Sweden

Sweden is endowed with a wonderful countryside where many beautiful flowers are grown organically. This article explores the most well-known ones. The breathtaking landscape features a tapestry of vibrant bright flowers, some of which represent the different provinces, just as they do in America and Canada.

Linnea borealis

Sweden’s national flower is the linnea borealis, which is also known as the twinflower. Interestingly, it was named after Linnaeus, who was the founder of taxonomy. The Twinflower is an exqusite delicate wild bell-shaped pink flower which is around an inch in height, and features a very thin stem with two flowers on top. It is found deep in the portals of the emerald green Northern spruce forests where it normally grows in pairs, and its strong fragrance can be enjoyed quite a distance away. Everyone adores wonderful smelling flowers to uplift their spirits and remind them of the natural beauty in the world. If you would like to send flowers to Stockholm or send flowers to Sweden in general, this can be done hassle-free via FloraQueen.

Anemonies

Anemonies are the provincial flower representing Härjedalen, in central Sweden. The name is often recited in elocution lessons at school: “many an anemonie meets an enemy anemonie”. This sought-after flower is unique to this region, and is part of the buttercup family. It has tuffed leaves and short stems, is lanceolate shaped, and sports six petals which are a shade between white and pink.

Smörboll

European Globe Flowers, or Smörboll as they are known locally, are the symbol for Medelpad, which is a province in the north of the country. These perennial flowers are a stunning bright yellow, and as the name suggests, they are globular in shape. They are also a member of the buttercup family, and can easily be confused with buttercups. It is only their tulip-like appearance which holds the clue to making the distinction. If you would like to surprise someone with a fabulous bouquet of flowers, FloraQueen is at your service with the best and freshest flowers on offer.

Lily of the Valley

Lily of the Valley is a much loved flower due to its fairy-like look and unmistakable scent which is often used in perfume. It is linked to Gästrikland, an eastern-central province, where it grows in abundance. It is frequently spotted spread out over the forest floors, due to its extensive roots that take hold and proliferate. The leaves are sterdy and long, protecting the charming creamy white tiny flowers. Having these kinds of flowers arrive from FloraQueen is thrilling.
